Cornish Maine Boudoir Studio // Let’s Talk Hair, Makeup, and Looking Bomb as Hell
So you’ve booked your boudoir session (hell yeah!), and now you're thinking: "Cool, but what the heck do I do with my hair and makeup?"
Well babe, grab your coffee, because we’re about to chat about what works, what doesn’t, and how to show up as the most you version of yourself—whether that’s a little bit rock and roll or a barefoot forest goddess who glows like she just woke up from an enchanted nap. Either way, my hair and makeup girls got you.
There’s No One-Size-Fits-All Look
Here’s the thing—you don’t have to fit into some cookie-cutter “sexy” box. You can go bold and edgy, soft and subtle, or anywhere in between. This session is about YOU. Your vibe. Your style.
Wanna rock a deep berry lip and smudgy eyeliner that says “I probably listen to vinyl and drink whiskey straight”? Do it.
More into a dewy glow, soft brows, and lashes that flutter like woodland fairy wings? That’s stunning too.
The key is: your makeup should feel aligned with you, not like you’re playing dress-up in someone else’s vibe. Dark and Moody Makeup = Yes, Please
Listen, I’m a sucker for a smoky eye paired with that dark and moody lighting. If that dramatic vibe calls to you—go for it. Just remember, there’s a fine line between mysterious and raccoon chic, so having a pro HMUA who knows how to balance that look for photos is everything.
Soft and Subtle? Hell Yes.
There is SO much power in simplicity. Barely-there makeup that enhances your natural features? Chef’s kiss.
Think glowing skin, subtle contouring (or skip it completely—no rules here), fluffy lashes, and a touch of color on the lips and cheeks.
It’s effortless, timeless, and hella beautiful in photos.
Contour or Don’t—This Ain’t the Makeup Olympics
Some people love snatched cheekbones and a sculpted jaw. Others are like “Please don’t draw anything on my face with a brown crayon.”
Both are valid. We’ll light you properly either way.
Makeup should feel like a celebration, not a chore. If contouring makes you feel fierce—go for it. If not, cool. We’ll still get stunning shots that show off your natural beauty and bone structure.
Are You Rock & Roll or Natural Goddess? Or a Little of Both?
Your look doesn’t have to fit into a box. You can be glam with messy hair. You can be barefoot with a smokey eye.
You can wear a leather jacket and lashes or a cozy sweater and lip balm. Boudoir is about showing up as YOU—your real, layered, beautifully chaotic self.
A Little Note About Tanning and Lashes...
Okay, mini soapbox time.
No self-tanner, please. I know it seems like a good idea, but trust me—it almost never photographs well. It clings to dry skin, turns weird shades in certain lighting, and can straight-up mess with your skin tone in camera. Natural skin tones always look best with my lighting and editing style. Trust the process.
On lashes:
Yes to fake lashes. Yes to natural lash extensions.
But if you’re rolling in with giant caterpillars glued to your eyelids that cast a shadow over your eyes... we’ve got a problem. Those super heavy extensions can create what I lovingly call the “dead eye effect,” and no amount of retouching is gonna bring back the sparkle that got shaded out.
Go light, fluffy, and let your eyes shine.
Think of your boudoir look like the “you on your best day” version. You don’t have to be unrecognizable—you just have to feel damn good in your skin.
Hair and makeup is about enhancing, not hiding. Whether that’s a bold lip and winged liner or a dewy barely-there beat—you’re going to look amazing, because you feel amazing.
So go with what speaks to you. And know that when you walk into your session, I’ve got you—lighting, angles, hype, and all.
